First Top Gun Dead-heat Golden Currency and Worth Backing. The amazing photo finish of the first three across the line separated by in inch. The first video is the late Bill Collins’ pre-race and call he came up with concept as a type of Cox Plate for Greyhound Racing. The name for the race came from Sandown’s long serving office manager Pat Griffen who later also worked for the GRV. In the second video is the radio call of Ron Hawkswell. I did the on track interviews that night but radio commentary on the cordless mic didn’t come thought the TV coverage only on the 3UZ Radio coverage. However I did manage to get the original recording it runs about seven minutes including Ron Hawkswell’s call. I spoke with both Kevin Mugavin and the late Carl Haas. Hawk offered me the gig which included interviewing the trainers of the finalists at kennel time. I had been contributing to Ron’s Wednesday night show Chasing Extra with a segment called Magic Moments. When he asked me to do the Top Gun he said like Wednesday night, he didn’t think he get me payment for it. I replied I would pay 3UZ for the chance. As it turned out the love job led to many other opportunities.
