Calamity Kid 50 Starts for 28 wins and four placings $33,125. In a purple patch between late November 1987 and February 1988 he won 11 from 12 including the Silver Chief and Cranbourne Cup. I wrote the following piece about the Cranbourne Cup.
Silver Chief winner Calamity Kid was all the rage at 4/6 and became only the third winner from box one recording the smart time of 30.85. He beat his litter brother and kennel mate Julius (20/1) with Tim Hardie (5/1) third. Raced and trained by Wallingford couple Darrell & Rose Booth, it was their biggest triumph in a career spanning 30 years. By Kid Campbell from Juliet the couple bred the litter and later sold Calamity Kid when he was trained by Ned Bryant. Minster Neil Trezise a regular presenter of the cup praised the club for it’s continued outstanding promotion of their blue ribbon event. A cheque of $4000 and another Ford Meteor GL went to connections; notable beaten runners included Marceena, Like Horace, Rapid Champ and Blazing Bub who fell.
