Wayne Robert’s son of Victorian Hall of Fame trainer Allan recently donated many of the family’s artefacts trophy’s, photos, stories after a lifetime of success training Greyhounds at the highest level. A much-loved man Allan together with the members of his family were welcome participants at many meetings throughout the state in a stellar career. Here is interview conducted by Brian Blackwell in his Greyhound Reporter February 1982. Plus, a famous Alan Quinn photo of Old Berry Hermes. He was one of the first English imports to Australia, trained by Allan Old Berry Hermes, later became a highly successful Sire. Allan stood him at stud, and 80 per cent of Allan’s bloodlines emanated through him. The late Allan Roberts put the polish on many champions the ilk of Perky Liz, Shan’s Deb, Glenavon King, Ringwood Lass, Vibrant Lass, Vibrant King, Wynlee Spirit, Wynlee Wonder, Wynlee Raider and Blackwood Earl – to name just a few. He had enormous success with greyhound from Tasmania. His best was 1984 Victorian Greyhound of the Year Sheila’s Teresa.
