One of most outstanding wins in a Group 1 sprint given the quality of the field was the Australian Cup of 1984. Rookie trainer former sailor David Fitzgerald with his first dog a superstar the mighty Tangairn. I caught up with him many years later to talk about the win. Tangairn – (Tangaloa x Delbairn Babe) January 81 31.8kg, 36 Starts 20 wins 10 placings. 1984 Australian Cup won in three states held Track Records at Cranbourne and Angle Park. Sired 612 pups, many good ones the best Modern Express, High Intensity, Modern Gossip, Club Edition, Magic Stroller and Benito’s Boy.
