Shane Drysdale asked if I could find something on the ill-fated Nitrogen. A speed machine of the early 80’s he was trained by Shane’s uncle the very competent Gippsland mentor Rod Drysdale. Nitrogen broke his hock at Sandown in a heat of the Sir Arthur Rylah Classic on January 19, 1984, I remember the night well. He returned to win three from three eight months later and was retired to stud. He produced 576 pups from 191 litters not sure of any better than average.
