Victorian owner and trainer Andrea Chapple contacted me with a framed sash that had turned up asking if I knew who had won the event it was presented for and if we would like to display it in the Sandown Museum. Andrea passed it on at the Meadows on Australian Cup night. We got together with Sophie Hilli and her son Paul on the night and showed them the sash won by Champion stayer Landena. What star she was trained by the late Joe Hili I have fond memories of watching her win her maiden at Sandown over the long distance after being backed off the map. How the sash turned up in a house in Coburg is anyone guess, it’s now in the Sandown Museum. Landena Sandown Distance Championship in track record time of 43.7/16th by 15 lengths for the great Joe Hili of Keysborough. Bred and raced by Joe she was by Fawn Scout from Dark Coronet. Suzy Capri a top stayer was second and Pavona Boy was a head away third.
