The National Sprint Championship was held at Cannington in Perth for the first time in 1979. Won by New South Wales sprinter Acclaim Star in September on his way to winning the Melbourne Cup in November. Here are some reports and photo’s containing some great names of the past. The lovely young lady pictured is Kerry Dunderdale Australia’s entry in the Miss Universe Pageant held that year at the Perth Entertainment Centre in July. Telecast around the World on CBS and here on the Seven Network it was hosted by Bob Barker, Helen O’Connell and Jayne Kennedy. Entertainment provided by Donny Osmond who I saw in Las Vegas in 2018. Venezuela’s Maritza Sayalero won the Crown and later danced with Sir Charles Court who Billy Flecther referred to as Charlie at the presentation after forgetting his name.
