The 1983 Maidment Memorial won by The Gallows an astute purchase from Queensland by the El Gari Lodge Syndicate. Trainer John Hartley. Nice tribute to Roy Maidment for anyone wondering what his contribution was to Greyhound Racing. Some iconic names in the presentation shot.
Doug Scott – Of the committee only Geoff left…doug
Des Dooley- Some pretty fair dogs finished behind The Gallows – Supplier, Quick Pulse, Flat Flyer, Ten Guitars etc
Neil Brown– Des Dooley Never easy to win a staying final in those days. It was the start of long run of fair dogs for the Hartley boys. I think The Gallows might have been their first top liner. From memory he came here with a modest background. Correct me I am wrong.
Des Dooley– Neil, to be honest I cannot remember The Gallows. The El Gari Lodge Syndicate were very successful for a number of years. Of the beaten brigade you had 2 Victorian GOTY in Flat Flyer and Quick Pulse, a National Distance Champ Ten Guitars and a bitch who was capable of winning anything on her night the enigmatic Supplier.
