Had a visitor to Sandown last Thursday night (Sept 26 24) Jason McCarthur and his family came down for the night from Broken Hill. Jason is the Racecaller up there where he has lived for the last 17 years. His Grandfather Max Miegel won the 1966 South Australian Waterloo Cup with Vigel Lunga. Jason brought me the 1948 Broken Hill Cup won by Escapoligist (Always Talking x Smiling Sparkle) Held over 630 yards he was owned by W.M.Hall second was Min Danedo and third Full Liberty. Margins were 3 x 2 in the time of 33 and 5/10ths a track record. I also found a story from the Barrier Miner with a preview of the big night. I have included a couple of pics of Broken Hill as it is currently and when it got an upgrade in 1971 after racing started in 1942.

MIN DANEDO TO WIN
DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
The Broken Hill Marathon Championship over 630 yards will be decided at the Turf Oval tonight.
Min Danedo is selected to win the cup, with Alpha Omega and Escapoligist next best.
Also on the programme ls a hurdle race over 370 yards. The rest of the programme is made up
of six races over 370 yards and two over the 630 yards distance. Another Kefalin should have no difficulty in winning the hurdle race, with Red Tramp second. Blue Enfield, in the Encourage Stake,
and Another Kefalin should prove good bets tonight.
Once again the racing club needs reminding that a steward should be placed in a position where he
can see everything that happens in a race. Surely some reliable person can be found to do the judging
without the steward having to do both jobs.
